Bead Table Wednesday - Tropical Pendants

I'm missing tropical islands and beaches so much today that I had to create something to remind me of those awesome days on the Bead Cruise!  Although, at 90 degrees it's feeling rather tropical here today too.

I created these Hibiscus Petal/Leaf Pendants in some yummy colors.  I'm rather smitten with leaf and teardrop shaped pendants at the moment and thought I needed some of my own.

Loving the colors, bright and fun but antiqued with an earthy umber.

Do not adjust your monitor, this photo is so sad to me.

Burnt beads.

There is nothing worse in my studio than a batch of burnt beads.  It hasn't happened in years, I had adjusted my oven to work on a different project a few days ago and forget to set it back.  Oh the waste, the horror.  Oh the bead-manity!

Ok, so it wasn't exactly Apocalypse Now, but a few choice words may have been uttered.

So those are the goodies and the bad-ies from my bead table, it's Wednesday - so what's on your bead table?

Share your photos at the BTW flickr group and go meet some new beady friends!

I love the Hibiscus petals, they also look like upside down angel wings. Is that really a burnt bead?? I thought they were pretty cool looking!

Beautiful pendants Heather

They may be burnt but they look intriguing just the same, I would go with it, start a new trend, call them embers or something :)

Sweet niblets! I love those beads. They look like fairy wings to me!

I have to confess... the first batch of pendants that I did in my brand new toaster oven were burnt like this. I use the pearl clay and it turned it the most gorgeous chocolate caramel color! I actually thought it would cool if I could duplicate that! And then when I painted on them...watch out! They were amazing! But oh so sad to be one of a kind. I think that your burned beads are not all that bad. I am the queen of lemonade and could even see potential in those!
Enjoy the day!

I love your new petal pendants and I must say those poor burnt beads have a very rich autumn look to them. Are they useable or will they crack or fall apart? Maybe they could become a theme set or something like that. Maybe you could call them "Burnt Offerings". LOL (That movie really freaks me out because I was young when I first watched it.) But seriously there must be some way to use them because they do look cool. Maybe you have invented the first Raku polymer beads. swopemelmel@aol.com

I think the burnt beads look fab! Maybe it's just the way the picture has captured them but they have a horse chestnut type of colour...like they have patina applied or something...definitely look interesting all the same and I didn't realise they were burnt until I read the comments below. Pendants are beautiful, as always. x

I thought of a horse chestnut, too and I thought they were an awesome rich color. Burned? Not in my eyes! Put them out in the shop and see what happens!

I think they look like decoratively painted Kukui nuts. Very rare. Very valuable. It's all in how you market it...obviously the deep brown color is still desirable. Who says they're burnt? ;-)

Love the leaves! I feel your pain!

Ouch! Sorry about those burnt beads.

The hibiscus leaves are really looking good though. All that texture and the beautiful colors, especially the turquoise blue.

I scrolled down past those lovely, gorgeous, lush, stunning (what else can I say to describe their wonderfulness?) hibiscus leaves, and thought- these beads would complement those pendants perfectly! I thought they were lovely- then I read your description and giggled. I hope you didn't throw them away! I am sorry that you had to endure stinky burnt polymer fumes though!

Thanks everyone - unfortunately I think I'm just a darn good photographer because those burnt beasd aren't quite so pretty in real life. They look kind of like how burnt chocolate chip cookies taste - you think they will be okay but as soon as you take one bite you realize they are a total loss!!!

I love the colors of the burnt beads - I had to reread your words before I realized you were saying they were a total loss!

Have just found your blog and your (mostly) beautiful beads :)

I hope there's been no more disasters in your workshop - your pendants are gorgeous!

Your disaster is beautiful to me! From now on I volunteer to be your wastebasket!!
